I've noticed a weird problem in X-Plane. It seems that when I view the built-in maps, or use any plane with a glass cockpit, items show up that should be masked behind the edges of the map, or the edge of the instrument in the panel.

For example, a compass rose on a heavy jet panel. Normally, only about 1/3 of the compass is visible in the lower part of the MFD, showing about 120 degrees of arc. On my panel, the whole thing is visible, and it extends way below the bottom of the gauge.

Also, when I view a map and zoom in, the map blows up to fill the entire screen, instead of staying inside the map window like it's supposed to.

I'm using a notebook with a Trident Cyberblade i1 video controller and Windows ME. Can anybody explain this? Has anyone else had it happen? Does anybody know where to get current Cyberblade i1 graphics drivers? Compaq has been less than helpful in that regard. Their updates won't even load on my system - I keep getting "You're not running a Compaq".

Thanks.

The best answer to this problem is to ask Austin himself.

austin@x-plane.com

He never is much for chat, but will answer all questions, which is just amazing!!

I have the same problem with my Compaq 1277 with the Trident Cyberblade i7 driver. Not only that but running any XPlane version above 5.52 will so screw up my computer that the only way to fix it is to erase my HD and do a total restore. I love XPlane but this is a real headache...I'd love to find a solution.

It's pretty frustrating. I want to install the new Cyberblad drivers, but the Softpaq's wont install. I keep getting an error message that I'm not running a Compaq Mobile platform.

What's with these people that they have to make it so difficult to install a simple driver? I wouldn't mind so much if their tech support could actually tell me what I need to do to make the installation work, but I just get "you need to use your restore CD".. which I ordered from them but NEVER RECEIVED.

It's getting a little frustrating.

Well, I got an answer back from Austin.

Apparently, OpenGL uses something called GLSCISSORS to clip viewports on the screen. It means that he can draw things that shouldn't be completely visible, and just let OpenGL do the work of trimming off the rough edges. On my other computer, it works well enough, but apparently the good people at Trident didn't see fit to write a GL driver that impletemented GLScissors properly.

Oh well. I'm getting a new computer next week anyway, so it's kind of a moot point now.
