September, 2005 marks the twentieth anniversary of the discovery of the Titanic wreckage by Dr. Robert Ballard. On September 18, we will fly to the Titanic’s gravesite using new add-on scenery developed by Bill Toler, one of our regular pilots here on the Multiplayer Adventures Forum.

We will meet at 2000 GMT at St. Johns, Newfoundland (CYYT), fly 375 NM over the North Atlantic, and land on Bill’s new Titanic Memorial Platform.

SCENERY ADDITION

You will need to download and install “titanic9.zip” from the FlightSim.com Library. Simply place the scenery in your Add-On Scenery folder, activate it, and then run your FSNav Data Base so that it will appear in FSNav.

AIRCRAFT CONSIDERATIONS

The platform is relatively small. You may land anywhere on the platform that you wish; there are no runways here. For this event, we will use an approach vector of 069 degrees to reach the platform. This will provide you with the longest surface. An FSNav flight plan for the flight is included in the scenery download.

Choose an aircraft that has excellent short takeoff and landing (STOL) characteristics. A fast helicopter is a good choice; you may want to find one with autopilot. It’s a long way to hold a joystick. The Eclipse Jet “e500v3.zip” (also in the Library) can cruise at 290 knots and handle the platform dimensions well too; be sure to use the autobrake and land at 80 – 85 knots with full flaps. A Harrier jet will be a good choice too. Just remember, it’s 12,000 feet down to the sea floor out here, so be sure to choose your aircraft wisely. A little extra life insurance for your family’s sake might be a good idea as well! :-)

Ships are also welcome to participate in this event. Ships can dock at the platform or stop near it. If you come by ship and want to dock at the platform, please do not block the approaching aircraft glidepath.

EVENT INFORMATION

Lite ATC will be in use for departure and arrival and real weather can be used as an option if you like. (Lite ATC simply means that one of our pilots will serve as Controller directing the line up and departure at St. Johns and the landing at the Titanic Memorial Platform. No complex vectoring or SID/STAR procedures will be in use.)
Be sure crash detection is turned off before joining the session. (Select Aircraft/Realism Settings and then tic “Ignore Crashes and Damage”.)

The flight server IP for this event will be 82.152.234.89 The Teamspeak server will be 68.47.20.233. (Please note the change in the Teamspeak server from prior events.) Backup servers will be in place should they be needed.

The servers will be online the day before the event from 2100 – 2300 GMT to provide an opportunity to test your connections prior to joining the event. Forum moderators will be online at that time to provide assistance, if needed.

The FSHost flight server and the Teamspeak server will be in operation several hours before the event begins. If you have a problem joining either server, come to the other one and announce the problem. Visit the Flightsim.com Multiplayer Adventures forum for information on alternate server operations.

An advance registration is required to participate in this event and participation is limited to twenty pilots. To register for this event, simply send an email to mp-registrations@flightsim.com. Your registration will be immediately confirmed and later reconfirmed the day before the event. The session password will be sent to you as part of the final confirmation.

Be sure to check your email and the Multiplayer Adventures forum for any last minute information or changes prior to the event. The cutoff for registration is 1200 GMT on the day before the event and no exceptions are made.

If you have questions, simply post a message on the Multiplayer Adventures forum and one of the moderators will respond promptly. You may also send a private forum message to Geoff or Ed or email them at either Capn_sonic@flightsim.com or LJ922@flightsim.com.

We look forward to seeing you at St. Johns, Newfoundland on September 18. If you come by ship, we’ll meet you at the Titanic site.

Our special thanks to Bill Toler for making this event possible.

You must register for each event individually.
Once registered for your first event you are automatically added to the mailing list, however, this does not mean you are automatically registered for each event, this just means that you will recieve the event announcement in an email, usually before the Notam has gone up on the front page.

To register you must send an email to mp-registrations@flightsim.com.

You will recieve confirmation shortly after, however, this is not an automated system so your confirmation may take a day or two in some cases.

I made some screenshots of my plane and the platform and I would like to know who I shoud send the pictures to. One other "small" note, I recorded this month's TS event and I will record all future events so that we can go back and listen to any important things (I so want to relisten to August's event and that one special moment, but I didn't record it).

Post the pictures here, please :-)

You can add attachments, click on "click here to choose your attachments" below the post.

Pictures, please :-)))

Thanks,
John (who's been too busy to fly much lately, so I need some pictures at least)

I really would like to send the photos through e-mail so that the image quality is not compromised in any way, since the current file size limit is 100KB and most of these are 3-500KB photos. Croping these woild probably degrade the image greatly.

Well in that case, my email is in my profile (just click on my name above). Thanks!

Cheers
John
