Hi,
Just a quickie... DG834 router should my "forwarded" ports still be showing closed when attempting to join a game, or should they at some time show as open, as for example when attempting to join?
Any help most welcome.
Regards,Gustav.

Not sure exactly about how the ports would read, but should say something like "listening" or "established" or "open" or "waiting" or something like that. Make sure you bypass any other firewalls (temporarily) so as to rule out that another firewall is not your problem.
Make sure your internal IP address hasn't changed and the router is trying to forward to an internal IP that doesn't exist. Many times when you reboot, the internal IP address is "refreshed" or re-assigned to a new internal IP address. The workaround is to set the computer that you want the ports forwarded to have a "static" internal (LAN) IP address. Under my netgear router (WGR614) setup page, I have an option under "Advanced Settings" called "LAN IP Setup"
Check out this link for help setting the ports for the DG834 Router for FS2004.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your post. I have done everything you suggest (and some!) and the best I can get is that the selected ports go from "stealth" to "closed" in a "Shield-Up" port scan! FS doesn’t even blink - just wish it did. ;( However first attempt at gaming I had no idea what it should show, now I know. :)
Should you think of, or read anything which might help....
Thanks again.
Regards,
Gustav.

Thanks for your post; it did help to finally solve the problem. (See later posts.)
Sorry I omitted to reply at the time, regrettable oversight!
