Hi Steve
I see the problem + where it's comming from, I don't think Ed can do much about it :).
Your attachment is called:
h t t p : / / www.flightsim.com/dcforum/User_files/CDocumentsandSettingsAdministratorMyDocumentsMyPicturesFlightSimScreenCapaturesRTW_UNBB_to_UIBB.j pg
(sorry, had to add some spaces)
If you look at the name and at the other names of the files attached here, you should see it: You probably posted the path+name of the picture directly into the attachment field instead of clicking on "Click here to choose your file" and then posting your file name in the new window. If you do it this way (not like your did first), your attachment will be uploaded to the forum and then automaticaly added to the attachment-field in your posting.
Not really a big thing :) and very easy to confuse (got me the first times as well).
See you in the race!

Hi guys, you're doing GREAT!! Wow, those flights through Russia, I've about had it with the snow just on the way to work and back :). I hope we get to hit some warmer areas during the race.
When I look back at the flights, besides the breaks inbetween the flights (which will dissapear once we really get going in the race, I know it!), the main problem we've seen is crashing on arrival, the usual "no-nerves" problem :) (at least for me - fly 2 hours and try to save 5 minutes by forcing the plane down... no no no). We've landed many different aircraft in lots of new places, met up with quirks in the FS, people flying online, offline, wierd weather and nice places. Hey! we've shown we can all fly and land, we can post our validation picture or at least the text - what more do we need?!
Another note for those from the multiplayer-forum here :) - FFJV (Juneau Valley) doesn't exist in default FS9, therefore it is not a valid handoff-place ;).
Just for your information: the full rules will be disclosed in less than 24 hours, we should have a certified aircraft list then as well. Until then, let's just "chill out", take it easy, practice at the limits of your aircraft or just head out for a virtual visit to some southern island, adjust those panels (avionics-upgrades are really easy with the FS, add a HUD to your P38, no problem), grab some sleep, tell your family bye-bye for the next week, take the dog out for a walk and enjoy the high-resolution real-life-sunsets, read a book...
You can also find some interesting real-life RTW accounts at these sites, they make interesting reading and show you all the things you'll miss by taking the FS instead of going IRL:

Hey All,
I'd like to bring out a few points here. We are all pretty sure we can win this event. I'm one who has thought so from the time I first read about it. But no one will really know who is going to win untill it's done. There is, however, one thing that I do know and that is that we do have the best team out there. I've flown with most of you and talked(email and TS) to even more. We have a super bunch of pilots, flightsim experts, some I'm sure Microsoft would like to have working for them, computer experts(in a lot of different areas), guys that will do anything to help a total stranger out a the drop of a hat, guys from all over the planet. I'd like to thank each and every one of you for all that you've done to help this team to win. I don't want to step on any toes here, but I'd like to raise a glass to one of us who's really poured what I feel is a tremendous amount of time and energy toward the cause. Folks, I'd like to offer my vote, right now, for the MVP of the FlightSim.com Team. ,,,,,,,, John Mueller.
John, you da man, we can all take note of your last post and the outline for the race there. Let's all have a great time together. Just do the same things we aways do when we are flying. Use our heads to think of ways to relax, and enjoy what little time we have to spend doing what we all love to do. John's points are correct. Yeah, it's a race, but let's not stub our toes, lets just go fast and keep moving till the "whistle blows",,,,,don't stop, that's the real key. John's said it, and so have others and I think we all know it too. Might not be a bad idea to plan a leg that's a little bit shorter than 2 hours(just in case,go-arounds,headwinds,etc.) and instead of looking for an airport at the last minute to divert to with little time, you can relax and enjoy the flight(still go fast) and spend your energy nailing a safe landing and quick baton exchange. Remember the tortoise and the hare? I'll see you all at the race if not before. Let's go out there and have a great time "spanking" BOTH of the other teams' rear-ends and placing the trophy with FlightSim.com.
Best of luck to each and everyone of us,
Austin

I know where - but what is a small GA aircraft doing out there in the middle of nowhere between Honshu and Adak.
Where is the HF transmitter? The twin Garmin 430's are nice, but you only use 121.500 out that far to hope someone else can hear you as you get ready to go swimming. I see they have waypoints setup to report in each hour.
But their VOR1 is still set on the Ashikawa frequency - a few hundred miles behind them.

I'll second that! A big thanks to John for coordinating so much of what's been happening. Having been in the race twice before, I can attest that the most important thing is to have fun. Let's not let the competition get the best of us and force us into doing stupid things that may cost us. On the other hand, we have a very talented group of pilots that have the ability to win this thing.
Go Team FlightSim!!!

And also to remind everyone of the rules regarding crashes. If you crash, you must state that you have done so. The next person may then take the baton from the airport you departed from. OR, you may start again from the airport you departed from, but your 2-hour time limit does not reset. The two-hour time limit counts for the total time you have the baton (including time used before your computer crash).
So, if you crash on takeoff, you must post to the forum that you did and then can takeoff again, but will have less time to fly. If you crash on landing (please don't - pretty please), then it's probably going to be best for someone else to take the baton as your 2-hour limit will likely be about gone.

Flying the P-38.
RFields
02-19-2005, 09:27 AM
The problem experienced above with 2ORD is most likely an overlay AFCAD. I don't know how the judges would rule - in that case I'd suspect the flight would be legal because it's obviously from O'Hare.
Everyone needs to be very careul about having extra AFCAD files and add-on scenery.
When flying across Russia, I had to go into my AFCAD folder (FS2004) and remove all my AFCAD files for Russia - because I had many from Avsim.RU for airports which are NOT in the default FS.
Landing at any of those airports would make my flight illegal.
Since I'll be flying on-line much of the time - I have temporarily moved all my AI aircraft (about 12GB) and disabled most of my add-on scenery, including my extra AFCAD files.
I won't be using those things during the race, but can have everything back next weekend just fine.

from there possibly UHPP-PASY-PADU=PADQ (478 - 566 - 695 - 526 nm legs)
or 1300nm leg UHMM-PABE (or PAOM);
UHMM-UHMA-POAM requires an 800nm and 432nm legs
however, we can definitely fly in better weather today, shorter legs and practice more landings.
and practice passing the BATON quickly and correctly
I think we might need those more than speed runs

Hi seehunt,
Nice try :-)! Though the flight has to be at last minimum 1 hour of... flight... well not really: one hour between "i have" and "i am landed" post stamp.
If too difficult to fly or not good airports in sight, the flight itself could be shorter (i think)... :-), just make shure you post "in time". But at last you have to choose another airport to land than that one you departed, cause the rules says it.
see you in the race

As I interpret the rules, the one hour minimum baton possession only applies to one flight in each of the historical aircraft listed in the rules, not every leg in the entire race.
Oblio
Swi_Tzer
02-20-2005, 06:43 AM
Hi there,
Yes, I think the 1hr rule applies for only (but all) historical aircraft. Isn't the Piper Cub one of them?
Pascal
apollosmith
02-20-2005, 09:56 AM
The one hour minimum applies to ALL of the historical aircraft. Each historical aircraft must be flown once.
I suppose that if we flew the same historical aircraft more than once, then the one hour minimum would not apply, but why would we want to do this? There are a few hundred aircraft that are going to be faster and better suited for the hops than the historical aircraft.

this would equal a 30 minute penalty in the race. Yuck.
Things I could have done better:
Carried too much fuel
Didn't have wind report
Had to go around - dimly lit, no ILS
Better than crashing, but definitely not desirable. I guess that's why we're out here practicing!
