View Full Version : SquawkBox/FS2004-FS2002
I'm not able to get SBRelay and FS2004 nor FS2002 to communicate so that I can establish a session and get to SquawkBox. Then when I attempt to exit they do not respond and hang, and I have to end the application by using the windows task manager. In addition if I am successful in getting their windows closed, I find that when I go to the windows task manager and click the process tab they are still running.I'd like very much to start online flying -- obvipusly I won't be able to until I can get these programs to function properly. I am using windows xp with DirectX 9.1c. Thanks.

Hey Leo,
Do you have to use Skwawkbox? There are better options out there.
Have you tried the Skwawkbox forums?
Not too familiar with SB so I can't really help you there. I'm sure someone here can though.
Thanks for your response to my posted comments.
No -- but I've been flying with virtual airlines for sometime and have never joined in the online flights. I have also been told by other pilots how great SquawkBox is. What are some of the other alternatives that you would suggest?

Hey Leo,
Welcome to the forum. What does SquawkBox actually do for ya? Been flying around here since forum got started never used it. Kinda curious really. If I knew what it did, then maybe I could come up its replacement. Aside from an occasional scenery d/l, all we've been using is Teamspeak and FSNav.
Regards,
Austin
Hi Austin:
Thanks for your reply - I use FSNav a lot myself. Never heard of Teamspeak -- what is it?
SquawkBox give you the ability to fly online either alone or with others under ATC control, i.e., approximates real controlled flying. Most of the pilots I know that use it fly with others or participate in flyins held by various virtual airlines. I used it early with one of the earlier versions of FS and SquawkBox, but haven't with FS2004, SBRelay and the latest version of SquawkBox. This is wherein my difficulty lies. Can't get them to connect to each other on my computer.
Happy flying!

Hi Leo,
Since your already familiar with FSNav, I'll skip to Teamspeak. That's basically a push to talk(freeware) program we use intead of the FS chatbox. It can be set up on a seperate server and just connected to like you would to multi-player in FS. I suppose that's what we are using instead of SquawkBox, and is probably why I'm not familiar with it. SB sounds like the better program, but for all that we have done(or will be doing...I guess) there hasn't been a need for it. The answers on how to "hook up" SB or related programs might be found on a different forum at this site. Have had a few probs with other things and so far found quick and accurate response from them.
As far as flying in the events that Ed and Geoff set up here all you would need is to register with either of them(always a link with each event's announcement), and load whatever scenery files are needed.
I'll give you the link for the TS Client program.
http://www.goteamspeak.com
Download the TS2 Client. It's in the upper right hand corner on the webpage. You should be set for whatever comes up next, and I'll be looking forward to flying with you at our next event. I'm also occasionally on the flightsim server 82.152.80.185 we could fly and work on the TS as well. But don't wait for me "virtually" anybody out here is willing to help as well. If it had not been for these guys I wouldn't br flying on-line at all. Great bunch of guys here Leo.
Hope that was some help to ya and Ill se ya on the server.
Best regards,
Austin

Hi Austin:
I have used FSNav for quite sometime and only now I have started exploring multiplayer - and only just now learned and saw that FSNav may be connected to a multiplayer Server.
Is there a thread or some additional info on this somewhere? I will start experimenting but sure would like to have some initial guidance.
Thanks,
Clarindo

Just make sure that port 23432 is open through your router (if you have one), go to Options... Multiplayer Connect (in FSNav), type in the IP address of the server you want to connect to, hit Connect, and you'll be connected.

Thanks a lot. That opened up a whole new world of simming satisfaction being able to continue using FSNav and having the participating or involved aircraft shown there.
Best of luck!
