Our third sanctioned multiplayer event will be held in Nassau, Bahamas. On August 8 we will meet at Nassau International Airport (MYNN) at 2100 GMT. We will transfer from the airport to the cruise ship terminal by helicopter or other STOL aircraft and then each of us will pilot a Scarab racing boat through Nassau Harbor, around Paradise Island, past a cruise ship at anchor near Nassau, and then back to the cruise ship terminal. At the conclusion of the race, we will return to Nassau International and fly on to Bimini for a few days of rest and relaxation.
This event is limited to twenty players on the day of the event. The FSHost server will be set for that maximum and additional players beyond that limit will not be able to join the session. To participate, you must register for the event as described later in this announcement.
PREPARING FOR THE EVENT
The event uses the default FS2004 scenery. You will need to download and install the Scarab racing boat from the FlightSim.com library. It is called “spdboat.zip” by Jordan Moore and Zane Greenwald. Install it into your FS2004 Aircraft folder according to the instructions. Note that you must have the file CONCORDE.GAU in your FS9 Gauges folder for the panel of the boat to work correctly. If you do not have the CONCORDE.GAU file, you can download it from the following site.
http://www.airga-va.com/Alex%20Page_newpanels.htm
At the time of registration you will receive a situation file set as an attachment to your confirmation. These two files are called “Nassau Race Start”; one is a FLT file and the other is a WX file. Place both in your My Documents\Flight Simulator Files folder. Call up the Nassau Race Start from your Flights\Select a Flight dropdown menu in FS2004. This will put you in the speedboat in the correct starting position. Note that the situation uses “roll in spot view”.
Also you will receive an FSNavigator file called Nassau Boat Race Course.fsn. Place this file in your Flight Simulator 9\Modules\FSNavigator\Plan folder. Open this flight plan in FSNav to see the race course circuit.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
There are two components to the event: a flight rally and a boat race. Each of these is described below.
The Flight Rally
The first component of the day’s event is the flight rally. Fly to Nassau International Airport in a plane of your choosing from your home airport, or other airport, if you like, and plan your arrival for 2100 GMT. You may arrive as early as you like, but you must be at the airport and on the ground by 2100.
Designing your flight plan and timing it for on-time arrival is a challenging aspect of flight simulation. Having planes landing in Nassau will make the event more interesting and fun for all. Plan to use Runway 14 for landing. This is an 11,032 foot runway equipped with ILS at an altitude of 16 feet. Announce your landing intentions on TeamSpeak or by use of the FS chat window. There will be no ATC in operation on the day of the flight.
Transfer from the airport by helicopter, blimp, or ultralight. The race will begin at the cruise ship terminal in downtown Nassau.
Regardless of how you arrive at Nassau International, be sure crash detection is turned off before joining the session. (Select Aircraft/Realism Settings and then tic “Ignore Crashes and Damage”.)
The Boat Race
When you reach the cruise ship terminal, select the flight file called Nassau Race Start and immediately move away from this entrance portal so that others may join their boats as well. Spread out some in the inlet until all are ready. The race will begin at 2130 GMT with a simultaneous start. Move out slowly onto the race course and then accelerate as you clear the other boats. The course will take you through Nassau Harbor and around Paradise Island. Please note that you must go around the anchored cruise ship and pass over Fix 11 before making your final turn to complete the circuit. The first pilot to reenter the small inlet at the cruise ship terminal and stop his boat wins the race.
The sail boaters in Nassau Harbor are not very happy about this race. Please try not to pass too close to them or hit one of them. After you pass through the bridge, you will see a group of sail boats near Paradise Island. Please pass to the right of the power boat that is securing that area.
The race circuit will take less than ten minutes to complete and after a few pics, we will return to Nassau International Airport. The flight to Bimini will begin as soon as all are safely in the airport complex and ready to go.
