Hey guys, hows things?

Just a few shots from me today of the excellent new FSD C17 Globemaster III. Hats off to Owen Hewitt and the boys at FSD, they did a fine job!

Did a couple of (large) circuits around Exeter, here is a take-off shot, 1 in the air, 2 landing shots and 1 shot on the ground!

Flightsim really doesn't give the feel of how big those planes are. They are built next to my home town in Long Beach so i used to be able to see the new ones roll out every week or so. Great Shots too.

She IS an excellent plane; I have been flying short hops with it just recently since my weekend purchase. How do you get your last two shots to look so real? :)

The model is fantastic and she is nice and easy to fly, gotta love practising tactical landings...land, reverse, takeoff, repeat ;-)

So what do you think of the flight modelling, Crew Chief? Too nimble, too sluggish or just right? :)

By the way, can anyone comment on that funny-looking texture, on the anterior lateral surface of the starboard main-landing-gear compartment?

Mojo...are you refering to this?

If so looks like some sort of heatshield, possibly for an APU or other exhaust.

APU = Auxillary Power Unit...usually a small Gas Turbine Engine used for running electrical generators while the main engines are shutdown...on some aircraft also provides bleed air to start the main engines, and also hydraulic power!

Hope that helps :P

Yeah thats the APU and thats what it looks like on the real jet.. heres a picture I took in Kabul, Afghanistan. It shows the APU pretty well.

On the subject of handling.. I think it is a pretty good representation of the real thing. I find myself playing with the aierlon effectiveness in the .cfg file sometimes though.. the real plane really has an awesome roll rate. I would say a value of 1.5 in that area is probably more realistic, you just have to watch your control inputs.

The one thing to watch out for is full flap landings.. it kinda wanders all over the place with high flap settings in Flightsim.. we rarely do full flap landings in the real thing unless its an assault landing or they are just practicing. 3/4 flap landings are the norm.
