Orbiter is a great sim for when you want to truly get away from it all :D

That link ( http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html )will get you the main program.
This extra is essential in my opinion...
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/ Adds sound + mission chatter.
My efforts:

Outer Planets add-on...adds over 100 moons + high resolution textures.

Thanks fellows. I highly recommend it...especially on some of the super-duper computers the average FS user has. It'll run great on the highest screen resolution you can manage. I recommend 1600x1200 or higher in fact. No multi-monitor support yet but that's in the works I understand, as is multiplayer. VCs are now popping up on many 3rd party add-ons now that it is part of the general SDK.
A great beginners mission/program is Project Gemini 4.2 found here: http://www.ibiblio.org/mscorbit/index.php If I recall it needs 'Earth 1962' also found on that site (early 1960s scenery). The reason it's good for beginners is that it looks GREAT and has autopilot to orbit so you can just enjoy the ride. Getting home however is up to you...lol. Once [link:orbiter.dansteph.com|Orbiter Sound] is installed you can add the Gemini radio-packs found only at Avsim at the moment. http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=Gemini&CatID=orbsnds&Go=Search It's about as close as you'll get...seriously.

Rolf

Well you can't beat free. :)
Orbiter comes with a nice set of super-high resolution textures and there's also 2 alternate sets available. There's work proceeding at making even higher resolution textures including making use of NASA's World Wind Earth viewer (new) which is more detailed by a factor of about 1000 or so.

Rolf
