After many developments in the civllian sector, aviation had taken on many advances, including flaps, boots, brakes, retractable gear just to name a few. In the post war years, Aviation had gained popularity in the US with barnstormers performing at many festivals and carnivals. Later, when the pilots trained by the Royal Flying Corps had no real paying job, the US Air Mail service was formed. Surplus Jennys were first used. One of the most famous pilots in the US at the time, Max Miller, married, tested out a new aircraft, the Junkers JU-11. One week before his flight, a similar aircraft crashed due to a mysterious engine fire. Witnesses last reported seeing his aircraft with mail bags flying out the windows, with the cabin on fire. The Ju-11 was scrapped in favor of other aircraft for mail service. Passenger service had arisen out of a congressional act in 1926, setting safety standards, and promoting the carrying of passengers. The Boeing B40 was one of the first aircaft, slow, noisy, unsafe, it was a primitive start.
To fly some of the aircraft in FS9, fly the Vega, Comet, and Spirit of St. Louis.
Utilising these inventions, military aviation grew as well. the Me-109 was first seen in the Spanish civil war, giving Europe an idea of things to come. During the invasion of Poland in September, 1939, the PZL P11c (the most advanced fighter in Europe, possibly world, at the time) claimed many kills, but despite the efforts of the PZL company, the air power fell quickly due to trying to fight off the invading Soviet armies as well as the Germans in the west. The Polish airmen fled through France, fought valiantly during the Invasion in France. When France fell, the retreat then took them to England, where during the Battle of Britain, the 303rd Squadron held the title of most squadron kills, shooting down 9 enemy aircraft for every 1 lost.
