View Full Version : RAF Vulcan to the Skies

The new Just Flight RAF Vulcan CD release, using the PSS Vulcan as a base.
No doubt this has to be one of the best all British aircraft of all time. Design and Performance nearly 50 years ahead of its time and that's no joke. Even today with the aircraft not flying for a decade, much of its performance figures are still classified.
But to give you some idea, at high altitude, a Vulcan can easily out turn an F-15 ;) It handles like a fighter and at Farnborough 1955, the second prototype was barrel rolled immediatly after takeoff.
On to the pics!

What's the Vulcan holding underwing in shot #5? I can identify the other payloads, but not that one.

what's the difference between the Just Flight version and the Pheonix Simulations one from their site (I see the Just Flight one is a shipped product ... is the Pheonix site version downloadable ?).

John, its a mockup of the Skybolt Nuclear missile that the US was developing before it was scrapped. The Vulcan B1A was going to carry a pair as seen in the picture (the aircraft did fly in that configuration with two mock up missiles).
The pylons later found use in the Falklands War Black Buck missions carrying Shrike Anti-Radiation missiles.
The PSS model only contains XH558, just the single model and texture set and no repaints are available. But it is downloadable.
The Just Flight package has a total of 10 different models from weapons loads, engine changes, terrain following radar bulges, inflight refuelling propes etc and 10 texture sets. They are period models and the aircraft is configured as it was at the time. That includes the Vulcan K2 tanker. All of the models also have animated drag chutes as seen in the last screenshot which the PSS model doesnt.
The panel, sounds and VC are identical to the PSS one.
The Just Flight version also comes with a custom version of Gary Summons UK 2000 RAF Cottesmore scenery, which is period based with Vulcans parked up on the ramps.

Love this Vulcan Bryan! My second favourite British bird, next to the Spitfire of course. Am really liking the last shot with the dragchute deployed. What a truly beautiful and magnificent machine !!!:-cool :-wave

That it is, that it is. Concordes Uncle as well.
Sadly, my local Vulcan isn't doing so well. Hasn't been painted for over over a decade now and is pushing about 20 years spent outside exposed to the elements.

That the Vulcan at Coventry? Looks in a poor state :(
I once saw one fly past in the midst of a red arrows display as a child... I can remember the noise now!!! It's an impressive aircraft and helped keep us safe in the hiddeously scary cold war years...
Excellent shots there and that chute looks fantastic :)

Nope, its XL319 which is at Sunderland. The exhaust nozzles have almost completely rusted away. :( There have been plans to move it indoors for nearly ten years now but the NEAM just don't have the money to build the new hangar.

It is a shame... and an insult :(
We should keep safe the planes that once kept us safe :(
They wouldn't leave a Spitfire out there to rust like that...

Looking forward to the Victor Chris, thought she'd been scraped for a while, or is it flying high under the DSB banner now?
Have to talk to you on MSN soon
