and now a question...for the uses of irfanview, is there anyway to see what the size of the picture is (in kilo-bytes) before i save it.

I think i might answer your question. Just press "I" in your keyboard to show you the picture's properties

When you save a shot, click on properties, then click on the JPEG2000 tab, from there you can compress the picture to a specific size.
