Tongariro National Park is famous for its 'alpine' village for access to the Whakapapa ski slopes at Mt Ruapehu, or Mt. Ngauruhoe, and Mt. Tongariro. The challenge is to land and stop on the summit of the mountains in winter, otherwise just ski down in your Cessna or change to a glider and glide down back to airport.
