WHO'S WHO

Phil Perrott

Hi, I'm Phil Perrott and I design FS98 panels for military aircraft. I was born in 1960 and now live in the town of Droitwich, Worcestershire in the UK.

My interest in military aviation started when I built model kits as a kid in the late '60s. After losing touch with the scene for a decade or so, my interest was rekindled when I played my first computer flightsim (Falcon, on the Amiga) in 1989. Although most flightsims were great fun, I'd always dreamt of having a sim of the many different aircraft I loved as a kid, especially the early British jets such as the Vulcan, which I'd often seen flying high above my home in Birmingham, England.

I was amazed when I discovered Microsoft's FSFW95 and that I could now 'fly' my favourites, but was always disappointed with having to use the standard panels. That all changed with FS98 and 3D cards, of course. I think panel design is similar to model making, except you can share the results with others, which is very rewarding. Where possible, I like to take photos of cockpits myself which, when scanned in, provide a very realistic basis for panels. I'm just looking forward to the day when we have true virtual reality and it really will be 'as real as it gets' !
