WHO'S WHO

Kimmiko McKay

Written by Belinda McKay

My mom Kimmiko "Kim" McKay was 37 years old when she died on June 21, 1999 of pancreatic cancer. She got into virtual aviation in October 1997 with her airline Geisha Air. It was the first all adult, and for awhile all female, virtual airline as well as being one of if not the first female CEO'd airlines.

My father, Peter McKay (of Air Fresno fame) married my mom in 1977 while serving in Korea. Mom was very young (16) and they lived life around military aviation for most of their lives. Mom never tried to get her own license because of her stature (4' 11") and failing eyesight, but she was a very good painter and aircraft designer with FSFS.

Mom had a number of kids; several died during infancy because of a genetic problem. Her mother was a survivor of Hiroshima and the radioactive exposure altered the genetics somehow, eventually causing the cancer that killed her. She had 3 surviving daughters.
