Gibson was born in 1951 in Orange, California, and has always loved things
that move, but especially trains and planes. As a kid if he wasn't dragging
his family to the train station to see the California Zephyr, he was
convincing them to eat at the airport restaurant after church (so he could
watch planes!). The Bonanza DC-3's and F-27's in Southern California gave way
to United and Western DC-6B's at Sacramento after a move to the northern part
of the state. The kid that stood at the chain link fence and wished that someday he could fly these magnificent propliners gave way to a career in biology, but the desire to fly the snarling "round engines" remained (but now repressed). The advent of FSFS allowed the kid's dream to be realized (at least virtually), and the first plane Tom did was a repainted Pacific Air Lines DC-3. A DC-4 followed; he has since built propliners from the Martin 202 to the Douglas DC-7C. His Classic Airliner page is now more than 2 years old, with over 200,000 visitors. Tom is also a founding member of the FREEFlight Web site, dedicated to the free distribution of AFX files. However, he still finds time to hop into a United DC-6B at Sacramento Muni and fly off, reliving those childhood dreams.
