Attending WarBirds Con '99

Under Control! In a Hurry! Total Frustration

I was so amazed in many respects as to what these people where doing. I shudder at the thought of replacing boards in my computer at home, let alone at a convention minutes before my team relied on me being up and running to defend our country.

Mark "AXEMAN" Emmerson seemed right in his glory. Flipping hardware in and out of his system like it was just another day on the job. For him it must have felt like it was, working for Microsoft and all. It was soon apparent that Mark would help anyone in need. I even heard him yelling out on several occations that he had an extra network card, brand new still in the box if anyone needed it.

Some people brought systems and didn't own a network card which meant ripping the machine apart, adding the hardware, configuring the card and then loading the network code under Windows. We all know how fun that can be. Just several of the comments I overheard from people after adding a network card were as follows: "Hey, I just lost my video driver", another said "I can't read from my CD any longer", which turned out to be a bad WarBirds CD (whoops!). One guy showed up and didn't even bring his computer, he thought they might have provided them!

I have to tell you this, though, once the T1 line was up, within the hour everyone was up, and everyone was online!

What you looking at? Alright, what now? Tell me that IP again?
