Interview: Pro Pilot 2000 Development Team: Biographies Part 2.

Team Member Biographies Part 2

Reid Sweatman:
I've been programming since 1971, majored in Math, English, and Music, doing graduate work in the first two, while working for an ultrasound research group and later as an IS network manager. While I'm not myself a pilot, my interest in the subject was inspired by my father, who earned a DFC flying P-80's in Korea, and later taught gunnery at Nellis AFB, ending up as Base Ops Commander at Travis AFB. This all came to a head with the release of the original Red Baron, at which point I resolved to work at Dynamix some day. I spent the next several years soaking up all the 3D programming, flight modeling, physics, and AI that I could, as well as reading anything about the history of flight I could get my hands on.

My first position after leaving the University of Utah was with Maxis, later moving to positions with Engineering Animations, Inc., and the now-defunct Voodoo Technologies. I also did private contracting in database design and audio SFX during that period. Finally deciding there weren't enough opportunities for writing flight sims in Utah, I looked first to Dynamix, naturally. My only regret is that my father isn't around now to see what I'm working on.

Ken Rogers:

I 've been here since 1 / 91. Got a B.S. in sociology, but who cares? I did the sound for Red Baron 2/RB2 3D, A10 2 and am currently working on Desert Fighters. I've also worked on AOTP 2 and probably will again when / if it revives. Also did a couple Earth Sieges, lots of 3d ultra stuff. . .

A few of the plane sounds came from libraries, for others I took portable DAT and a nice mic out to an airport. I had one guy fly me to dirt airstrip, a place far from other noise, and then had him perform specific maneuvers while I recorded from both inside and outside the plane. Some of these were unpowered, which is how I got certain sounds (landing, rolling, airstream. . .) without the engine messing them up. A couple weeks ago they sent me up in a Decathlon, I had the pilot fly a few stunts while I was recording from inside.

Joe Legg:

Joe Legg started in the Flight Sim field at subLOGIC in 1992 just as the last copies of A.T.P. revision "D" were being wrapped up, and shipped out the door. He went on to work on "USA EAST", "USA WEST", "Flight Light",and "Flight Light Plus", for that now infamous flight simulation.

For the past four years he has worked for Dynamix on the Pro Pilot line of flight simulation products. On the original Pro Pilot and Pro Pilot '99 he handled the sound, ATC, and instrument panel programming. On the upcoming Pro Pilot 2000 he is very pleased to have concentrated his talents solely on the delivery of a solid, realistic, and accurate ATC system.

He lives surrounded by cornfields in the wilds of Illinois with his wife Kimberly Kay, and daughter Lydia.

Kate Alley: Video Technician and Editor - Digital Video.

Kate has over 10 years of experience in the aviation industry as an Avionics Technician and Aircraft Electrician. Her experience includes working on a variety military and civilian aircraft including: KC-135 Stratotanker, F101 Voodoo, BV 107 Twin-Rotor Helicopter, as well as numerous small aircraft in the civilian industry. She is also a private pilot.

Personal comments about the Pro Pilot flight instruction videos:

I enjoy working with the Pro Pilot team. The beautifully crafted artwork, realistic instrument and avionics panel combined with authentic sound effects and gorgeous scenery - what's not to like!

Blake Carper: Online Product Manager.

I've been at Dynamix for just a little over 2 years. The first year and a half I spent working as webmaster for Starsiege and Starsiege:Tribes, where I worked on pages such as www.starsiegeplayers com and www.tribesplayers.com. The one flight sim oriented thing I did work on was the www.redbaronplayers.com site.

Recently I've taken over the position of online product manager for the flight sim group, which is the pompous way of saying I make the web page for the flight sims. I'm still just getting my feet wet, but I've got lots of plans. The one thing we have put together is the Pro Pilot 2000 website (www.propilot2000.com).

Online I fly as "Kamosa". I must say, so far I'm proving to be quite the easy mark in the Desert Fighters ATR, so don't brag to much if you shoot me down, it's just not that hard :).
