Visiting Looking Glass Studios

We find Peter James in his office.

Peter is the lead designer on the project. He came to Looking Glass with a vast background in aviation, mostly as a flight instructor and corporate pilot for an electrical contracting company. He has his commercial, CFII and Multi-Engine ratings. Peter told me that his best memories are trips to Chicago (Meigs) with his close friend Nels Anderson in his Piper Archer. You can see an actual photo they took on the welcome page of FlightSim.Com. He also has enjoyed a flight to south Florida in the company Bonanza and a few hours flying the FAA's newest 737-400 simulator.

Peter stands in front of his BeechJet Poster (Yes he flew it)

Peter started with the existing Flight Unlimited II and designed all of the new airplanes, instrument panels, lessons and many airports. He also helped design the new weather system. He always "wanted to make a civilian flightsim that contains all the missing parts that other sims don't have, such as accurate aircraft visual models, true sounds, better cockpits, more detailed weather and flight qualities". Peter is an extreme flightsim addict, and when Flight III ships and everyone else goes on vaction, he'll still be in his office flying it. Peter is also the voice of "Peter" in Flight III as well as the voice of the instructor in the lessons.

Peter demonstrates the new Flight Unlimited III

It didn't take long before we settled in for an entire hour as Peter personally took us through all the new features in Flight Unlimited III. It was an incredible experience watching someone who knew the program so well, and is such an experienced pilot.

Don Porges takes care of all the Panel hook-up.

There was not a lot to see when we caught up with Don Porges other than a lot of C source code on his screen. As Peter puts it, Don is the instrument panel systems hooker-uper! Don shares the office with Peter and was out when we first got there. Once he came into the office we took his picture and talked for a while. Then when Peter got going with his demo (full sound with engines revved and Peter revved) Don decided he better do some document reading, it just wasn't the time to concentrate C code.
