Toni Agramont's Spain 2000

By Shawn Anderson (21 September 2000)

Spain 2000 has been very popular with the flightsim community, showing enhanced details and terrain, making flying this country a pleasure. Quite a few people, though, have noted some issues with this scenery, which I haven taken the time to review to point out potential sticky areas.

Documentation:

The documentation that comes with this scenery is pretty thorough, but does lack explicit instructions for those beginning to install their scenery for the first time.

Installation:

Installation is somewhat straight forward, but like I said, if you don't completely read the documentation thoroughly, you may miss some important issues, which could hamper the way the scenery looks and acts in FS2000. When you unzip the file, you will find quite a few .zip files included with the package. Not to worry. After following the directions included in the main .zip file, and once it is installed in your FS2000 scenery folder, you should have something that looks like this. Fire up FS2000, and add it to your scenery manager.

Scenery:

Spain 2000 is incredible. There is a lot more detail then the default scenery. The mountainous regions seem to have a bit more texture, while the coastline also adds a lot more detail. The airports however, have not changed dramatically from the default FS2000 scenery. A few additional buildings have been added throughout each of the major airports, but lack jetways, static and dynamic scenery. Although the scenery covers such a vast area, attention to detail was defiantly taken when this scenery was created. New Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter textures are included, which brings a new added level of realism to flying this region.

Frame Rates:

I maintained around 20-25 FPS almost all of the time using this scenery. These are the settings I had for this scenery:

Incompatibilities:

So far from what I could see, there is an issue of using this scenery with Wilco Publishing's Airport 2000 Vol. 2. If you try and fly to or startup in Barcelona, you either automatically crash (startup), or miss the runway when using ILS. The two areas of scenery seem to intertwine with each-other, causing a double image. I suggest you temporarily turn off the Airport 2000 scenery if you are going to fly the Spain 2000 scenery all by itself.

Overall Score:

For the use of textures and detail, this is one of the best add-ons I have seen. However, it does lack thorough documentation and some compatibility issues with other 3rd party scenery. I rate this scenery a 96 out of a possible 100 points. Overall, this is some great scenery, and is definitely worth downloading.

Test System:
  • AMD K7 700 MHz Processor
  • 128 MB RAM
  • 17" Viewsonic E771 Monitor
  • ATI Rage Fury 32 MB Video Card
