ProFlight 98 Preview

by Matt Schuld (22 July 1998)

What you are supposed to get

Adventure Planner-Basically sounds like a more realistic and easier to use ATC program somewhat like the original Flight Shop ATC program.

Flight Management Computer-I assume it is a pop up item in your adventures. It says it has all the info (airports, waypoints, etc…) automatically entered.

Aircraft Personalization Wizard-Simple tool where you can change the Learjet, Cessna, and 737 to whatever airline or design you want. You may be able to also change the aircraft that come with ProFlight 98. It says nothing about changing the freeware aircraft.

Personal Owners Manual-A folder that you can keep your charts and stuff in. It also comes with a full manual (finally a product that does).

777-300-Claims it comes with a 777 from "Next Generation" Professional Flight Collection (whatever that is). It says it comes with a FMC and is compatible with the adventure planner.

Cessna Panel-It has a new Cessna panel that is basically the same one that comes with FS98 with a few adjusted features.

Requirements:

To start with the Adventure Planner has a ton of options I am hearing about. It has seven different ATC voices to choose from for your flight. And you even get to choose your own voice. Second, the ATC chatter that everyone likes to hear in the background so much is generated for almost a never repeating message. Next, it has basically every airport that you can land at in FS98 and more. It also has a utility so you can enter additional waypoints and airports. The weather conditions can be set to change during flight (improving, decreasing).

The FMC is also supposed to be very nice. It is supposed to include some new panels for the 737 and the Learjet. It also works in 3D mode.

In the Aircraft Personalization Wizard you can paint the Cessnas to whatever color you want and put the 737 and Learjet to whatever livery (who knows they could have every livery or two so you will have to wait for the review on this one).

The 777-300 sounds like it is an aircraft from one of AETI's next products. It also comes with a new panel.

I can't really tell you if this product will be the best ever or just OK. After its release I will tell you about any bugs and problems. It is not due out until July 28, though the date has already been pushed back once by 3 weeks.
