iving so close to
Oshkosh myself I have looked at the scenery of this familiar area in
depth. I find this scenery very well done from the very nice
buildings to the fact that you can turn on the runway lights by going
to the CTAF frequency 118.5. There is alot of detail in this scenery.

Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator
After it installs, verify that 17 SEED files reside in your main
texture directory. Strange? I know, but they have to be there. If
not, then make sure you go to wherever you installed Oshkosh and copy
those files into your Main Texture folder. The other textures can be
in the newly created one, but the seeds must not be misplaced.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\FLTSIM5
But that is incorrect. It should read
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator
Once that is done then it will install properly. Next, you must install FSASM. Its setup program was installed along with Oshkosh. You'll find it in your Flight Simulator path, for instance,
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\FSASM
Unzip the file FSASMLIB.zip and install it. You will need the correct lib file for your flight simulator only; the lib file for FS5 is with this scenery. After all of that, start up the simulator and go to the Scenery Library. Once inside you may search the disk for sceneries or ADD it yourself (recommended). Type in this unless you changed something:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\Scenery\Oshkosh\Scenery\*.bgl
Whewww! OK I admit, that's a lot of typing, but it's worth it. Now you can choose Oshkosh again and go fly there. Make sure scenery complexity is very dense to see everything. Remember to use the radios because there are special frequencies for getting the runway lights on for example etc., etc... Tune to the tower (118.50) to get the runway lights.
This scenery overall gives you a very good feel of the EAA fly-in
experience. I tried it on three machines, a 133 MHz, 200 MHz MMX and
a 300 MHz with 3D graphics. It worked good on the 133 but the frame
rate was very poor on dense scenery. The 200 was very good and the
300 with 3D graphics was excellent. There are three airports on this
scenery, Wittman Regional at Oshkosh itself (OSH), Fond du Lac County
(FLD) and Appleton--Outagamie County (ATW). Oshkosh shows a lot of
detail and even includes detail outside the the airport area. The
tower and the EAA museum are very realistic looking and very well
done. Appleton and Fond du Lac are also very well done. The only
error I saw with it is the fact that on FS98 it makes the default
scenery for Green Bay disappear. Other than thats it's great.
So, if you can't make it to the real EAA AirVenture '98, this virtual scenery can be the next best thing.
