Jumbo Jet 2.0

By David Cougar (26 October 1999)

Let's just say that I was really really excited when I got Data Becker's Jumbo Jet 2.0. When I opened the box I found one CD and a manual. The add-on was very, very easy to install. I popped in the CD and the menu came down giving me the option to start so of course I did. Then 3 selections: Aircraft, Scenery, FlightMaps, so I first picked Aircraft because Scenery would just kill my old and slow computer!

According to the box the add-on includes 66 new 747 jumbo jets, 3D cockpit renderings and photoreal graphics and 100 new major airports. But when you open that fold out thing on the box front to see more of the game I saw more things in the game. Example: more realistic terrain, etc. But what I was really excited about was the photos and videos all about 747s...well where is it? Nope it's not to be found! I can't seem to find the videos even after fully exploring the CD and everything; there just are no videos!

Well let's just get to the aircraft...Wow, I was amazed!

The aircraft that they designed was just a work of art. The best looking 747s I've ever seen for FS98. The engines and everything are just so real. The gear is 3D, the flaps are full on the wing and strobes and everything else you expect to find on a 747 is on these models. All are models such as the Boeing 747-100 and Boeing 747-200 models only. Many of the aircraft in this add-on are older paint shemes of airlines. Some are new but most of them are old, which is good but I would have liked to see a new Air Canada paint sheme not the 70's and 80's one (there are 2 versions). The El Al is also old paint scheme from 1993 which has since been changed.

But hey, it's OK I love this add-on. Think of it as this: Not like Mad Dog when you install the planes and everything you want to fly them right! Well, nope, not in Mad Dog, you must turn on the plane bla bla bla, then you take-off but when I get something new I just want to start playing it, so with this you start when the engines on and everything is ready for take-off. Mad Dog is for heavy heavy simmers...but I'm going off subject here. The panel is great, including the sounds. The sounds are so clear and real just like the real 747. I feel like I'm in the actual seat because I can hear the fans and the cabin noise. The panel has two problems. The speed meter gauge gets stuck sometimes unless I go over 300 kts and the artificial horizon also gets stuck on the bottom left sometimes.

Now let's talk about the amount of aircraft...66, wow that's a lot of 747's...including airlines such as:

Air Canada, El Al, American Airlines, Gulf Air, MEA, Delta, United, KLM, Tower Air, SAS, Pan Am (3 types), Lufthansa, and sooo many more!

I like to fly the El Al because it's one of my favorite airlines. I've flown with them many times in the past years. And I like to fly with Tower Air because it's hard to find a good Tower Air in freeware and I also like to fly the Lufthansa and United and KLM...Oh boy I like all of them!

United 747     Delta 747 climbing from Las Vegas     El Al 747-200 landing at Tel Aviv     Pan Am 747-122 climbing from JFK at night     Pan Am climbing from Las Vegas, passenger view

My conclusion is that this add-on is just great! It's simple and easy to use. Let me remind you that it's fun and very exciting at first. Except for the videos missing I still like this add-on very much. The panel and aircraft and the sounds was just amazing!

I give this addon a wicked 99.5%. Since I couldn't find the videos I was mad as #&$#^!

Tested on a: P 166 MMX, 64mb ram, 6.4 gig hd, 4mb Monster 1 3Dfx card, 8mb ATI xpert98.
