Peter Dowson's FSUIPC.DLL for FS2000

By FlightSim.Com Staff (12 December 2000)

This handy pop-up screen contains everything you need for quick customization of many FS2000 functions. You can override default settings to optimize performance!
UPDATE: NEW VERSION 2.0 Added December 12, 2000

Every once in a while you come across a utility or file you just can't live without. Peter Dowson has created just such a file in FSUIPC.dll, with v2.00 being just released. This small .dll file gives you so much power to change some of the most obnoxious problems that plague FS2000. Could it be true??

This utility will eliminate:

Now, you can have smooth transitions to changing weather, without all the mess! Once again, I must say, this utility reduces pausing, stuttering and unrealistic weather changes. It will smooth out your entire weather flying experience by some miracle, or clever programming by Peter. Not only that, you'll get full control of the default unlimited visibility (which normally goes to 20), the under cloud visibility (normally only 10), how quickly visibility will change and to what altitude you want it to end, yielding unlimited visibility (like always in the flight levels). It will also fill in the gaps between Metars when using real weather, to not give you that POW! unlimited visibility and clear sky routine we all get too often. So now, you're more likely to get a smooth, subtle transition to better or worse weather without all the surprise, and performance hit.

Here's a close-up of the most common check marks and functions. However, feel free to play around - it's easy!
For those of you who don't want to deal with gusty winds near or on the ground that may affect taxiing ability, you can turn that off as well, or customize it to never exceed certain values or limits.

For some added beauty, FSUIPC can, at your option, add Cirroform clouds up high, over a solid layer (never happens by default you know). And if performance is a real issue with your machine, try limited cloud thicknesses at only one layer, to try to improve frame rates. If that's not enough, add in some extra turbulence that Microsoft left out of the clouds, and some extra icing to boot!

What a great utility! If you're like me, and have been experiencing some annoying pauses, and performance hits during weather changes, it's time you get FSUIPC now! And while you're at it, customize some cool things MS never gave you the ability to edit before!

I have only used FSUIPC a few hours now, while flying in the "background" as I go about my normal duties here at FlightSim.Com, and so far, it has proved no less than outstanding! My skies are blue and my transitions in and out of the weather are smooth at last!

FSUIPC.DLL by Peter Dowson deserves a 97 out of 100 possible points. I am saving 3 points for a longer period of testing, but wanted to get the word out to GET THIS NOW !! I'll post any extra findings, should the need arise. For now, it's time to go flying, with more confidence...and write a thank you letter to Mr. Dowson.
