FLYIT General Aviation Panel

By Muhammad Chariri (31 October 2000)

Seven months ago I added to my flight control CH Yoke and pedals with a Flyit General Aviation Control Panel. I use this control panel for PC dedicated for FS2000 and FS98 with configuration at present of PIII-800E, ASUS P3B-F , 512 MB Ram , 15.3 GB HDD, Elsa Gladiac GeForce2 GTS 64 MB DDRAM, SB Live plus FPS 2500 speakers and 21" Sony G500.

Specification

The Flyit General Aviation Control Panel package consists of the control panel, monitor platform, Epic game card, Win98 and cable to connect panel to Epic game card.

Measurements:
22" deep x 26" wide x 17" high (approximately) desktop space required for panel and 14" - 21" monitor (does not include space required for control yoke

Installation

Before installation, I did a computer desk modification by lowering the keyboard latch to give enough space for yoke movement and added a piece of board to place the mouse.

After installing the Epic card as usual, start the computer and run Add New Hardware wizard with installation disk and follow the installation manual.

Activating The Panel

1. Replace the Fltsim98.cfg and FS2000.cfg with the created cfg in EPIC folder
2. Run calibration and add Epic entries in Game Controller Applet (Control Panel) until 16 lines of Epic Programmable systems entries shown
3. Load Epic98 (before or after FS98/FS2000 loading), if necessary repeat several time until message ... verified and loaded shown. Enabled joystick in Option Window of FS98/FS2000

How Does It Work?

I am very pleased with this control panel especially for FS2000 and FS98, with some notes as follows:

1. Star key only usable for default Cessna of FS98 and works on some aircraft in FS2000 with similar configuration such as Captain Slug Piper Arrow, OV-10 Bronco and B58 Abacus Private Pilots.
2. Thrust Reverser doesn't work
3. This panel is not usable for Fly! by Terminal Reality; once EPIC98 is loaded Fly! won't work
4. Flightsims that can be loaded in the same platform with Epic game card are ProPilot 98 and 99, CFS, AS2, 747 PS 1.2 and 1.3, X-Plane all versions, Jeppesen Flite Pro, USAF but only yoke and pedals will work with ProPilot98, yoke only with X-Plane 5.21 to 5.40 while for the other sims is only mouse applicable. Unfortunately I was unable to try FUII and FUIII due to the loading problem with VGA card
