OR Tambo International Airport (IATA:JNB, ICAO:FAJS) (ORTIA) is a large airport in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng, South Africa, near the city of Johannesburg. It serves as the primary airport for domestic and international travel to/from South Africa and is Africa's busiest airport with a capacity to handle up to 28,000,000 passengers annually. The airport is the hub of South Africa's largest international and domestic carrier, South African Airways (SAA), and a number of smaller local airlines.
Features:
The ground textures are just the plain FSX textures and that was really a letdown. The view of the terminal was basically the same picture plastered onto the windows a couple of times. The lighting at night made the taxi lines onto the stand barely visible. The jetways are still the standard FSX jetways and that was also a downer for me. The layout for the airport is very good and was spot on according to charts.
The inclusion of the SAA Tech and Safair Cargo areas were modeled okay. The modeling is okay for a freeware, but I don't feel it was worth $30. The inclusion of the SAA handling Air Stairs are nice. The parking garage that is modeled outside is absolutely unrealistic with no cars visible and is the same picture pasted over and over similar to the windows on the terminal. The modeling is something I should see in FS2002 and not FSX.
The edges and corners aren't sharp or crisp and they look nothing like the real thing. There is a road outside the main hall that is basically one U-shaped road that doesn't even connect to the main road outside of the airport. This airport looks like it could have been made with the default scenery alone. For payware, this is really not worth it, but with no other developers developing for this area I guess this is all you can choose from, unless you are fine with the Aeroworx scenery that is actually better in my opinion.
Installation was easy. After purchasing from fspilotshop.com, I simply downloaded it. It came in a folder named NMG-135. All I had to do is extract the contents of the folder, then run the installer, and then input the license key which you got from the web site. Support is very quick and was very helpful with my inquiries, which looks good for users who would require assistance. Uninstalling was as easy as going to your Control Panel and selecting Add or Remove Programs.
The performance of this airport was okay on my mid-to-low end computer, but did kill some frames compared to some other payware packages. I would recommend this to anyone who does a lot of flying inside South Africa, as it is the main airport of South Africa, but not to someone who will not fly to this airport more than a couple times. The Aeroworx freeware for this airport might be more suited for someone who flies a lot too, as it is a little bit more believable for me as I have spent a lot of time at this airport in real life.
