Bravo Ed Davis Let The Virtual Airline Revolution Begin

By Michael Talbot
30 June 2009

What inspiring insight and message into the virtual airline and the virtual airline elite. Couldn't have said it better myself, but I'm going to give it a shot. Ed Davis's message should be required reading by all you stuff shirt virtual airlines and your VATSIM cohorts. Now here is an elite organization that owes its purpose and its creation to all of the virtual airline community not just a select few. Their attitude is, "We are the only game in town and we can be selective as to whom we host and make it a requirement that its members use our network". Hog wash.

The community of virtual airlines have been systematically driven into exile and replaced by the new simulated business adventure, but they hide under the heading of virtual airline and you can find a host of these businesses listed with VATSIM. These are selective groups who emulate real world aviation business. Why do I call them businesses. Do you consider it fun after a long day or week in the real world to belong to an organization who simulates a business in every aspect including the abuse of its members when they make a mistake and not be payed for it. What kind of person enjoys this, I'll tell you, a masochist.

As a result of the abuse by the virtual airline industry, mainly by kids years ago we have all had to suffer. Many of us and I mean many have great organization with a lot invested in time and money but we have no desire to force VATSIM down the throats of our members. Here is a message for VATSIM. Just announced here at FlightSim.Com (VoxATC) here is your replacement. Maybe it's time to donate the the VATSIM network to the FAA or military so they can use it for training because as for the virtual airline community at large it is obsolete except for a select few.

The over structured virtual airline, every structure coping every other structure. From training to have to get permission to leave your computer to use the bathroom. Have you ever really wondered why payware is so expensive? Why would you go out and purchase a B767 Level D with multiple liveries and be relegated to flying a freeware Beech 1900. You have been flying binary airplanes forever, but it seems you need to be re-trained and re-trained if you move from one virtual airline to another. The whole concept is ludicrous. The whole hobby is intended to have fun. Stop calling this structured concept a virtual airline. It a simulated business along with all the abuse that comes with it.

Someday, a dedicated web site will be developed with a pay for listing program because this works for me and I'm sure for many others. It's time to put the real virtual airline back into the lime light and then you will see payware prices drop because more people will purchse them, because they will be allowed to use them.

This is my spin.
