One of these changes affects me personally and renders a lot of hours worth of work useless. But don't get me wrong, I love FS2002 because it gives me a lot of worthwhile features, and I would like to adopt FS2002 as my favorite sim but I would really like to be able to use my homebuilt radio stack (based on 2 usb joysticks).
So by writing this Op-Ed I would like to find out who else is affected and maybe get MS to change FS2002 somewhat. This is actually more or less a Tech-Op-Ed.
With the arrival of FS2002 one of the less obvious changes is the way FS2002 is able to use the Point Of View (POV) switch of your stick or yoke. FS2002 is no longer able to assign 4 or 8 different functions to each direction of the POV switch. FS2002 is able to assign the POV to just one function (regardless of which direction you move it) or use it as a...POV switch duhhh ;-)
Peter Dowson told me it has to do with the fact that FS2002 uses DirectInput in stead of the windows joystick API.
I know a lot of people use the POV as just that. But there must be a lot of people who use this button what is actually meant for. Elevator and aileron trim or maybe a host of other functions.
So, are there others out there who are now no longer able to use some of their favorite setttings to increase the realism and flexibility that we love about FS? Possibly a large part of the cockpit homebuilt community shares my ideas. Can we find a workaround or can MS patch this? Maybe we can put it on our patch wish list (which I feel will be shorter than with previous versions).
Who knows?
Your inputs are welcome.
Keep on simming in the free world.
