Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 Press Release
LAGO is proud to announce that after a lot of work we just released Amsterdam Schiphol 2000.
We choose Amsterdam Schiphol for our first FS2000 scenery because it is one of the main ports in Western Europe and many travellers have been there once. This is because 50 to 60% of passengers do not leave the airport but are in transit, which makes the airport much larger than the Dutch population would allow. Moreover it has some very unusual characteristics, to name a couple: it is located below sea level and it is built on peat!
Scenery
Our aim with this project was to release The Ultimate Airport Environment, think about it like the first real FS2000 scenery - not a simple adaptation from an FS98 scenery: and we now feel we succeeded!
To give you an example, when we released the first screen shots we immediately got some harsh emails from Dutch users asking why we do publish real photos claiming these are FS screen shots!
In contrast to our previous sceneries, Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 covers a very small area: the Amsterdam Schiphol airport only. The area is covered in unprecedented detail using all the enhancements introduced with FS2000 like, for example, night textures. For this reason, Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 is NOT backwards compatible with FS98, to use the new FS2000 features this simply is not possible.
FSTraffic type dynamic scenery
But even the most beautiful scenery without life is just like a nice set of postcards, making you thinking that you are alone in the world. As our aiming was to reproduce not only the scenery but the complete environment, giving any user the sensation of really being there and not in a simulator, we ended up in making it fully alive.
Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 is the first product that incorporates a very complex set of realistic traffic movements (based on our Active Scenery technology). No more random selected planes moving around: with our schedule in your hands you know when planes will arrive or leave!
Any major airport is a busy place and Amsterdam Schiphol is one of the busiest airports in Europe. Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 mimics the movements on the airport in detail, including all departures and arrivals by KLM and its two partners Alitalia and North West Airline flown on February 5th 2000. You will see the aircraft approaching and leaving on schedule: it is a rather perfect day because there are no delays for all 600+ flight that are shown!
To keep the frame-rate acceptable, the traffic parameters can be set through the Schiphol 2000 dialog box.
Documentation
The documentation of Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 is also something that is not seen before, in any scenery add-on! 80 pages of detailed information, more than 35 charts have been drawn all in high quality resolution colour to help you land, taxi and depart as in the real life.
The manual has all the information you need to learn about this special airport. Useful information like noise abatement procedures, preferred runways, peak hours information, speed restrictions and procedures, VFR flight procedures, docking systems, to complex paragraphs that answer questions like: "How much runway is usable when I take the second exit of runway 06?".
Of course all these features should not distract attention from what is beyond any doubt one of the most detailed sceneries ever produced!

LAGO Amsterdam Schiphol 2000 is a shareware (try before you buy) product.
