by Michael J. Dybus

Dan Purcell has an article on how to set up Win95 for FS5 use. Here is another way to do it:

Part One

1. Right click on the start button
2. Left click on open
3. Left double click on programs
4. Left click on file
5. Slide cursor to new then slide cursor right to folder, left click on folder
6. Type a name for the new folder, i.e. "FS5", press enter
7. Left double click on new FS5 folder
8. Left click on file, slide cursor to new then right and down left click on shortcut, a Create Shortcut menu will appear, click on browse, left double click on the folder where the Flight Simulator files are located. Double click on FS5.COM the Create Shortcut menu will reappear, left click on next, select a name for the shortcut, i.e. "FS5", click on next, select an icon, click on finish

Part one is now finished; close everything that is open.

Part Two

1. Left click on start button, slide cursor up to settings, slide cursor right and down to taskbar, left click on taskbar
2. Left click on start menu programs
3. Left click on advanced
4. Left double click on programs (under start menu)
5. Left double click on the new folder you created in part one, i.e. "FS5"
6. Left click on the shortcut you created in part one; it's on the right side under contents of "FS5"
7. Slide the cursor up and left, left click on file then down to and left click on properties
8. Left click on program
9. Left click on advanced
10. Make sure the "Prevent MS-DOS programs from detecting Windows" and "Suggest MS-DOS mode as necessary" boxes are checked
(10a.) If you have installed the FSFX Upgrade select only choice two "Suggest MSDOS mode as necessary". With the FSFX Upgrade if you select "prevent MSDOS programs from detecting Windows" you will receive a fatal error message
11. Left click on ok, left click on ok, left click on close button "X", left click on ok

FINISHED!

ENJOY
