Where In The World 28?

By Ron Blehm
28 January 2010

Number 27 (above) showed a photo of Longmont, CO (Vance Brand Airport) as submitted by Jim Randazzo from the USA. I would say that about 25-30% of the e-mails I received back on this one were wrong - our successful guessers are listed below:

Wayne Stephan
David Coats
Rodrigo Garnier
Alan Rooney
Matthias Schaper
Frank A. McFall II
Bob Morris
Dean Brown
Jack W. Power III
Rick Branch
Marco Roth
David Lee
Bruce Nicholson
Sune Granzow
Doug Vokey
David Austin
Mick Jones
Andrew Webb
Michael McCracken
Hugh McLean

Seems that about half of you looked to the NAV display on my Do328jet panel to find the VOR and triangulate the position some 12 miles away. Without that this would have been a true stumper! David Austin noted, "The harder it is, the more fun it is when you find it."

Number 28 (real photo and FSX view, above) comes with the following information: "This is a photograph of a new terminal building, constructed at a European airport. This terminal opened in December 2006. A new runway was also added and it became operational in August 2006. Unfortunately, the new runway didn't get included even in FSX. The airport is close to one of the oldest towns in Europe. The town's history can be traced back more than 7,000 years. In the centre of town is a statue of Czar Alexander who liberated the country from Ottoman rule."

So the question is, "What city / airport are we talking about?"

Note: I happened to fly over this airport during an "Around the World Tour" in Dash-8 aircraft and threw in this photo (below) just for good measure.
