Hello fellow simmers. I'm back this month with a rather Emily Post
type of Flap's Flap article. I have noticed a rather disturbing trend
lately on the forums that we must address: bashing. We all go through a learning curve with every new Flight Simulator that is released, and that is true to this day even with FSX. Probably a little bit more than usually with this one, because there has been many different format changes.
I have observed in the course of the past few weeks, that people seem to be bashing more than ever on the FlightSim.Com forums. There seems to be people who are voicing their opinions on FSX, which isn't a wrong thing to do, but some of the responses that people make seem to be as though they are taking it as a personal attack on them. One that I'm going to quote here as a matter of fact is a perfect example of what I'm talking about, that someone could not run FSX decently and couldn't afford an upgrade. Someone simply responded, "How sad. Perhaps you should have let Microsoft know you can't afford a new PC. I'm sure it would have delayed the release until you could afford one." Now we all know that with each Flight Simulator release, there is a reason to upgrade some form of hardware on our machines. Some, may be adding more RAM, others may be adding more storage space. Me, I have a totally separate hard drive on my system so that FSX will not be pestered by the Windows Operating System.
I have also noticed another kind of depressing comment in this posting, "We need a special forum for FSX complainers? A little tiny one, tucked away somewhere in a remote corner where it won't get in the way."
Bear in mind people, when someone posts their opinions they are not attacking us FSX users personally. I have tried Matt's Tweaks, which works wonders on my system - the link is here. These I have noticed gave quite a fluid change in performance in the simulator, and now i operate in virtual cockpit all the time in whatever aircraft I fly. You may also want to refer to one of my older Flap's Flap articles on overclocking video cards, Flap's Flap 10.
This behavior reminds me of certain people who can put a stop to this type of thing out there, they are called the moderators. So people, please, FSX is here to stay, we all know it, and for those of us who use it love it. Remember people are not attacking us personally, so there's no reason to go on a vendetta and defend FSX so passionately hiding behind our computers. To me, I love FSX, going to continue to keep using it, and by golly, wish everyone the best of luck with whatever choices they make regarding it. Remember, if you don't have anything nice to say out there, just don't say it - it will make everyone have a much nicer day in the long run, and the moderators won't have to block the post or worse - eventually suspend your account.
Now that that's said, have a great Thanksgiving and see you all next month in Flap's Flap everyone! Happy flying and keep the blue side up!
As always too, I still enjoy hearing from my readers, only if to say hi. You can email me.
